Default Borderland, Crows Nest

We popped in here on Friday Night because we fancied a change from the usual (Thai or Indian). It was fairly early (about 6.45pm) so not particularly busy and we were seated straight away (its BYO, btw - $2 corkage per person) The restauraunt itself is decked out 'mexican' style, with murals on the wall. It looks pretty amateurish - , but maybe its meant to - I don't know.

The staff were friendly and efficient and we ordered quite quickly. I got the chilli con carne burritos - he got the chicken fajitas. (Main meal average price is around $17) I didnt think there was much atmosphere, but maybe it gets better as the night was still young even when we left.

I didnt find the food particularly exciting, although the chilli con carne in my burrito was very tasty indeed and made with beef chunks not mince as I'd hoped it would be. I was disappointed that refried beans werent on offer, but this meal was a good size. The fajitas were basic fare which is fine - basket of flour tortillas plus guacamole (guacamole seemed to be cut with something - maybe sour cream - I could be wrong) sour cream, and this tomato/cucumber thing which I think was supposed to be salsa. However the sizzling platter came with chicken and barely any onion or capsicum (two slivers of red is all we found). We kind of thought whats the point - we'd have preferred some more texture. If you like the idea of all meat and no veg then its great for you, but the portion isnt that big. (My other half NEVER manages a whole main course, and he ate all of his fajitas)

My overall impression was dazzlingly average although what we got was admittedly tasty. I wouldnt go back unless I really wanted mexican style and there was no-where else to try.
